We are looking for a Software Developer!

Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity to work for long established company developing a suite of applications used by some of the largest global energy companies. Technology and innovation is at the heart of the organisation, and is reflected in an ethos of continual improvement and investment.

We are looking for talented software developers to join and enhance our small team. The team has full lifecycle responsibility, taking ownership of solutions from initial concept to design and implementation. Our priorities are set against our strategic roadmap which ensures the team understand long term objectives, and can therefore shape investment decisions, technology choices, and potential future opportunities.

How We Work

We value a strong team culture. The team follows agile methodologies, working in two-week sprints, collaborating on design, and peer reviewing each other’s code before it is committed. We ensure broad knowledge of our code base by providing opportunities for team members to work on any part of the system. Formal communications are ensured through a daily stand-up meeting, with regular ad hoc meetings and discussions taking place throughout the working day.

We use software to track issues, plan our sprints, monitor our backlog, and support pain free code reviews. Our CI build automatically compiles the code and runs the extensive set of automated tests on code commit.

Mostly working from home, we use Microsoft Teams for day-to-day interactions. We understand the value of developing and maintaining relationships with your peers, so provide the opportunity for the team to meet throughout the year face to face. Whether that is to kick off a significant project, or catch-up more informally for one of our BBQs (when it’s sunny) there is an expectation of all team members meeting regularly throughout the year.

There is very occasionally the requirement to visit client sites, however this is mainly dealt with by our dedicated support team.

Your Role

You will be involved in a combination of investigating and fixing issues in the existing software and developing new functionality. You will need to communicate and agree solutions, technologies and designs with developers and geologists. As well as writing code and unit tests you will review other developers designs and code. An active member of the team, you will provide help and support to the other developers, and input into improving the development process and standards.

Skills and Experience

Two plus years' experience in software engineering including knowledge of SOLID, design patterns, dependency injection and other software engineering best practices.

Educated to degree level, or equivalent industry experience.
